Samaritan's Purse Project

Operation Christmas Child gift boxes filled with toys, school supplies and personal hygiene items were donated by students at the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton for Samaritan's Purse, an evangelical humanitarian organization based in Boone, N.C., headed by Franklin Graham. Recruiter/Assistant Counselor Named

Lori Clarke of Lebanon, Va., who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications from East Tennessee State University, has joined the staff of the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton as a recruiter/assistant counselor, announced Dean Blevins, director. The position, a one-year appointment, is funded by an American Recovery Readjustment Act grant to the Tennessee Board of Regents. Clarke has 15 years of professional staffing, /recruiting experience in business and industry, advertising, public relations, marketing and job placement. A participant in various local charities, including the March of Dimes Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society and the National Diabetes Association, she also serves as the membership director of the Human Resources Association of Northeast Tennessee. She and her husband, Kevin, have a daughter, Kasidee.

Graduation for Kingsport and Bluff City Nursing Classes

Kingsport Nursing Class

A pinning and capping ceremony was held Dec. 10 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 208 Maple Ave., Church Hill, for 22 graduates of the Practical Nursing Program offered by the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton on the ETSU at Kingsport Campus.

Ashley Parker, registered nurse in the Emergency Department at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, was the keynote speaker.

By county, the graduates are:

Hawkins - Jennifer Barker, Natasha Christie, Tim Darnell, Sandra Kahl, Kasey Lawson, Tabetha Lowe, Dawn Lyons, Tad Millsap, Mitzi Morelock, Hillary Rector, James Shaver and Misty Trent.

Sullivan - Ashley Hammonds, Martha Hayes, Mary Hayes, Brittany Hicks, Crystal Lane, Misty Shiley, Sara Slaughter and Todd Tupper.

Bluff City Nursing Class

A pinning and capping ceremony was held Dec. 15, in the Monarch Auditorium of Bristol Regional Medical Center (BRMC) for 19 graduates of the Practical Nursing Program offered by the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton in Bluff City.

Penny Miller, RN, vice president of patient care at BRMC, was the keynote speaker.

In 2009, a total of 131 students graduated from the Practical Nursing program at TTC-Elizabethton in day classes held in Elizabethton, Kingsport and Bluff City. The program, which takes 12 months to complete, prepares graduates for the Tennessee Board of Nursing exam to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. The current licensure pass rate for graduates of the nursing program at TTC-Elizabethton is 94 percent.

The 135 hours of Nurse Aide training covers state regulations mandated by the Tennessee Department of Health and Environment. The course prepares students for the Tennessee Department of Health Related Boards exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide and provides necessary skills for job opportunities in a health care facility. No high school diploma or GED is required to enroll in the course.
