ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.--Tennessee Commissioner of Education Lana Seivers is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at commencement exercises for a record 251 graduates of the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Freedom Hall, Johnson City.
Among 220 students who will receive diplomas, by county, are 80 from Carter, 51 from Washington, 42 from Sullivan, 22 from Johnson, 12 from Hawkins, six from Unicoi, one each from Blount and Greene Counties, three from Avery County, N.C., and two from Scott County, Va.
In the 2006 graduating class are 133 students who majored in Practical Nursing in classes taught in Kingsport and Elizabethton, 31 in Business Systems Technology in classes offered in Elizabethton and Mountain City, 18 in Welding, 12 in Electricity-Electronics, eight each in Automotive Technology and Diesel Powered Equipment Technology, six in Computer Operations Technology and four in HVAC/Refrigeration.
In addition, 31 students from 29 cities and towns in 12 states will receive Certificates of Completion in the online Dietary Manager Training Program offered by the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton. The program prepares students for the national exam to become a Certified Dietary Manager.
TTC-Elizabethton is governed by the State Board of Regents and accredited by the Council on Occupational Education. In 2004, TTC-Elizabethton received the “Exceptional Training Provider Award” from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for having the highest student job placement rate among 152 public and private postsecondary Workforce Investment Act training facilities in the State of Tennessee.
The registration fee is $2,058 to attend TTC-Elizabethton as a full-time student for 12 months. The Tennessee Lottery Scholarship pays $1,500 per year to full-time students attending a technology center.
