Mother-Daughter in 2009 Graduation Class

Dr.Jones told the graduates that successful people have often experienced failures. "Don't be afraid to fail. Failure can be a major part of learning," she said.

She challenged the 243 graduates to take an inward look at themselves and seek wise counsel and guidance from mentors. "Always practice the Golden Rule and treat others with dignity and respect," Dr. Jones said.

Dr. Goodman welcomed attendees on behalf of Dr. Charles Manning, chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents, and James King, vice chancellor for Tennessee Technology Centers,

Dr. Goodman congratulated the graduates on receiving the "necessary training to become a productive member of the workforce" and also expressed appreciation to their families. "They have been there to help you along the way," she said.

In the 2009 Graduating Class are 90 students who majored in Practical Nursing, 35 in Business Systems Technology, 22 in Electricity-Electronics, 14 in Welding, 12 in Computer Information Technology, 13 in Pipefitting, seven in HVAC-Refrigeration, six each in Millwright Skills and Automotive Technology and one in Diesel Powered Equipment Technology. These full-time training programs take 12 to 20 months to complete.

In addition, TTC-Elizabethton presented Certificates of Completion to 36 students from 32 cities and towns in 12 states who completed the eight-month online Dietary Manager Training Program.

To date, more than 186 students from 28 states have completed the training program which prepares graduates for the national credentialing exam to become a Certified Dietary Manager and employment in hospitals, nursing homes, schools and correctional and large day care facilities across the U.S.
