James King, vice chancellor for Tennessee Technology Centers of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), met with faculty and staff at the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton recently to discuss the process to select a successor to Jerry Patton, director, who announced he will be retiring on June 30.

A 10-member search committee will be appointed by TBR Chancellor Charles Manning. A review of the applicants will begin in April after the position is advertised nationally, King said. A minimum of a Master's Degree, as well as experience in education, are among criteria for the position.
Members of the search committee will include faculty, staff and students, as well as representatives from the school's general advisory committee, business and industry and TBR.
Prior to coming to TTC-Elizabethton in 2000, Patton was Student Services Coordinator at the Tennessee Technology Center at Morristown. He began his career with the Tennessee Board of Regents System at Walters State Community College in 1988.
A native of Ohio, Patton graduated from Bowling Green State University with a B.S. Degree in Education. He received his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee. For three years, he taught at the high school level.
Patton has served as Vice President of the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Elizabethton Rotary Club, Sycamore Shoals Hospital Board of Directors and Workforce Investment Board.
He also serves as the liaison for coordinators of Tennessee Technology Center Licensed Practical Nursing Programs. In 2004, Patton co-chaired a committee to implement the Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant of the Tennessee Lottery Education Scholarship.
