Registration is underway for a six-month online Dietary Manager Training Program

Registration is underway for a six-month online Dietary Manager Training Program offered by the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton. Online classes begin July 11.

The program prepares graduates for the National Credentialing Exam to become a Certified Dietary Manager. Dietary Managers work with Registered Dietitians to provide quality nutritional care in food procurement services, sanitation and food safety, as well as administrative and personnel management.

Approved by the Dietary Manager Association, the program consists of 498 computer-generated classroom hours and 150 hours of field experience in the student's hometown, coordinated by the program director, Patricia Roark, RN. Phyllis Ensor of Elizabethton, Certified Dietary Manager, and Sherry Kyker of Johnson City, Registered Dietitian, are the online instructors.

The average yearly salary of Dietary Managers, nationally, is $35,585, according to the DMA. The cost to enroll in the online program is $1,124, which includes tuition, fees, textbooks and materials. The program qualifies for the Federal Pell Grant and Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship.

TTC-Elizabethton, which does not charge out-of-state fees, received 69 student applications from 53 cities in 25 states for the six-month online Dietary Manager Training Program that began Oct. 6, 2004. Thirty-one students are expected to complete the online Dietary Manager Training program in June.
