A new Pipefitting Training Program will be offered by the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton, beginning Jan. 5, 2009, in response to requests from employers in the region, according to Jerry Patton, director.
A high school diploma or G.E.D. is required to be admitted to the program. The initial class will be limited to 25 students who will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Classes will meet 20 hours per week, either Monday-Thursday or Monday-Friday afternoon and evening hours, at the Main Campus, located at 426 Highway 91, Elizabethton. Students will determine the class schedule most convenient for them on the first night of class, Patton said.
The part-time training program is designed to prepare graduates for an entry-level position as a pipefitter. The Tennessee Lottery Scholarship will pay most of the costs to enroll in the program, Patton said.
Several months ago, TTC-Elizabethton added afternoon/evening classes in Welding and Electricity-Electronics to help meet the need for trained workers in the region. The Welding training program currently has a waiting list of 120 students desiring to enter the program, Patton said. Existing facilities at the Herman Robinson Campus have reached maximum capacity in both day and evening Welding training programs, Patton said.
