Amy is among a record 470 students, a 14 percent increase over last year, enrolled at TTC-Elizabethton this fall in 10 full-time training programs that take 12 to 20 months to complete, as well as online courses.
Dean Blevins, director, attributed the increase in enrollment to the school's low registration fee, $800-$900 per trimester, the availability of financial assistance from the Tennessee Lottery and Federal Pell Grant, totaling $2,449 per trimester, to eligible students, and a desire by students to learn job skills for employment in Northeast Tennessee. "The job market in this region still looks very bright despite the downturn in the economy nationwide," Blevins said.
