Congressman-elect Phil Roe Visits Campus
Tennessee First District Congressman-elect Phil Roe attended the November meeting of the General Advisory Committee at TTC-Elizabethton and expressed support of the workforce development training facility which serves students and employers in Carter, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties in Northeast Tennessee.
According to Roe, vocational technical schools "are terrific assets" who play an important role in changing lives of people with no education and no job. "My father lost his job in a factory," said Roe.
In the face of state revenue reductions, Roe said there is still a need to train more people to fill existing jobs in the Northeast Tennessee region. There is also a need for more doctors and health care professionals to take care of an aging population, said Roe, who is a medical doctor himself.
