Kimberly R. Wilson of Erwin, nursing student at Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton, has received one of four National Technical Honor Society scholarships awarded during the 2004-2005 school year.
The scholarship is named in memory of the co-founder of the Society, Jon H. Poteat, who was an outstanding leader, educator, counselor, father and friend. Recipients are chosen based on character attributes of skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership.
Prior to entering the Practical Nursing program at TTC-Elizabethton, Wilson was employed by Dawn of Hope in Johnson City.
"I thought I would never find the right career path until I began working with developmentally challenged individuals. By having the honor of taking care of such wonderful people, I realized that nursing was the perfect choice for me. I have been blessed with supportive, loving parents and a dear friend who graduated from this program. The nursing program at TTC-Elizabethton has had a very positive influence on me," Wilson said.
The 1994 graduate of Unicoi County High School is expected to graduate from the Practical Nursing program at TTC-Elizabethton in September. "Receiving the NTSH scholarship has given me the confidence I need to be successful and secure my future. I look forward to the challenges ahead of me and I feel secure in stating that I will be able to meet them," Wilson said.
Students at TTC-Elizabethton are eligible for membership in NTHS if they have a 95 grade point average, do not have any attendance policy violations and are recommended by a member of the faculty.
TTC-Elizabethton received its NTSH Charter in July 1999. More than 30,000 students who are enrolled in technical education at member schools and colleges are admitted to NTSH each year. More information about NTSH may be found on web site www.nths.org.
