Organ Donors Needed
Jennifer Jenks, Tennessee Donor Services (TDS) of Gray, pictured at left, spoke to practical nursing students at the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton recently on the important role of organ donors in the lives of others. About 5,000 people in Virginia and Tennessee are on the waiting list to receive an organ transplant from 450 people in the two-state region who annually donate one or more organs, according to TDS. On average, 18 people, among 106,000 waiting for an organ transplant in the U.S., die every day while waiting to receive a lifesaving organ transplant.
