The National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), based in Flat Rock, N.C., awarded the NTHS student chapter at the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton the 2011 NTHS Silver Star of Excellence Award for Community Service and the NTHS Silver Star of Excellence Award as an Outstanding Chapter.  Pictured with the awards, from left, are Sandy Barker, nursing instructor and faculty advisor; Suzanne Vannoy, LPN graduate and former NTHS president; Dean Blevins, director of TTC-Elizabethton; and Dawn Brooks, LPN graduate and former NTHS secretary.

About 200 TTC-Elizabethton students collected bottles and blankets for victims of the record-breaking flood in Nashville on April 30, 2010. The Outstanding Chapter Award is presented to NTHS chapters who follow core values of Skill, Honesty, Service, Responsibility, Citizenship and Leadership, according to C. Allen Powell, NTHS co-founder and executive director, who presented the awards. Blevins expressed appreciation to the students who participated in the community service projects and congratulated them on receiving the two Silver Star Awards from the NTHS national organization. Membership in NTHS is reserved for students with a 95 overall grade point average and no attendance policy violations who are nominated by a faculty member.
