Course Description
A 12 to 20–month program that offers A+ Certification, Network+, INet+, IC3, Network Cabling Specialists in both copper and fiber optics, and MOS Certification (Microsoft Office Specialist.) A student will become familiar with computer equipment and peripherals and the proper handling and care of the equipment. A student will also learn how the computer works and how it can benefit employees in the modern work place. The student will gain knowledge in terminology, installation of software, and become proficient in the use of software programs.
Upon completion of the fundamentals of computer operations, the student will advance to the technical aspects of computers. This will include troubleshooting computer problems to the board level and affecting repairs. The student will learn computer networking, setup. multimedia, how to access the Internet, and the latest in technological advancements in the computer world.
Currently no single national certification exists for CIT. Therefore, several national certifications were referenced during the development of the competencies. A student who completes the Hardware Certificate should be able to pass the A+ Certification Exam. As for the Networking Specialty competencies, a student should be able to test for several different certifications. This will enable the student to focus on the certification that will be the most beneficial to the student.
