Course Description
This program is designed to meet the needs of an educational program for the members of the nursing team employed in hospitals, nursing homes, home health care agencies, etc., to give assistance in the care of patients. Included in the course is: fundamental nursing skills, medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology and administration of medicine, nutrition, growth and development, personal and community health, and all of the body systems such as endocrine etc. This course prepares graduates to take the state board examination in order to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Admission Requirements
Students desiring to enroll in the Licensed Practical Nursing program must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. and be at least 18 years of age. They
must complete the Nursing Entrance Test application form and pass the Nursing Entrance Test. The cost of the test is $30. A minimum score of 51 in
Reading and 42 in Math is required on the Nursing Entrance Test. The 2½ hour test is timed. There are two test dates each term. An appointment to
take the test is made at the time of application. Each student must maintain an 81 average in all classes. In addition, personal and work references are
required for the applicant.
A study guide for the Nursing Entrance Test may be purchased at the school's main campus, located at 426 Highway 91, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. The cost is $40 cash or credit card. To order the NET Study Guide online, visit the book publisher's Web site, www.eriworld.com.
A 20-hour NET Prep class is also offered through the Tech Foundations Lab. Topics include Reading for Information and Basic Applied Mathematics. The cost of the NET Prep Class, offered on campus and online, is $91. To enroll, contact Patricia Roark, 423-547-2590, Ext. 401.
Clinical Requirements
Physical examination and immunizations are required, as well as certification in CPR by the American Heart Association for Health Care Providers, including Automatic Electronic Defibrillator.
Licensure Requirements
Graduate of an approved school of Practical Nursing and Criminal Background

Class Hours
Classes meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday–Friday with clinical hours scheduled at various times. Classes meet at the Herman Robinson Campus,
1500 Arney Street, Elizabethton, Workforce Development Extension Campus, 386 Highway 91, Elizabethton, the ETSU at Kingsport Campus, 1501 University
Boulevard, Kingsport and at ETSU at Bristol, 1227 Volunteer Parkway, Bristol.
An 18-month nursing program is offered in the evening, subject to sufficient enrollment, in Elizabethton. Classes meet from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the Herman Robinson Campus, 1500 Arney Street, Elizabethton, with clinical hours scheduled at various times.
