SkillsUSA Medal Winners
Seven students from the Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton received medals in SkillsUSA competition held in Chattanooga on April 28, 2010. They are, pictured from left, Zachary Jeffords, Mars Hill, N.C., student in Diesel Powered Equipment, second place in Diesel Technology; Shanda Henderson and Rebecca Sewell of Johnson County, students in Business System Technology (BST) – Mountain City, third place in Promotional Bulletin Board; Steven Parker of Johnson County, student in BST -- Mountain City, third place in Prepared Speech; Amanda Potter of Johnson County, student in BST -- Mountain City, second place in Job Interview; Dawn Brooks of Sullivan County, student in Practical Nursing, third place in Health Occupations Portfolio; and Kristen Halstead of Washington County, student in Practical Nursing, second place in Medical Terminology. Also participating in the competition were Chris Davis of Unicoi County, student in Diesel Powered Equipment; Billi Rogers of Unicoi County and Julie Robinson of Sullivan County, students in Practical Nursing; and Jennifer Kellis of Johnson County, student in BST -- Mountain City.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to evaluate career and technical student performance and training. Winners of local and state hands-on skill and leadership contests will competed in the national SkillsUSA event held June 20-25, 2010 in Kansas City, Mo. Last year, more than 5,400 students competed in 91 events for SkillsUSA national honors.
Dean Blevins, director of TTC-Elizabethton, a 22-year veteran of career and technical education, received the first SkillsUSA Outstanding Educator State Leadership Award for exceptional support and service to SkillsUSA.
